Question: How to choose between CPU/GPU when using it?
Answer:
CPU and GPU are different types of processors in a computer. Generally, the GPU is more efficient for tasks related to graphics processing.
Simulation:
For computers with a dedicated graphics card, it is recommended to use the default simulation method (GPU) for better performance. Computers with NVIDIA dedicated graphics cards typically achieve significantly higher simulation efficiency with the GPU compared to the CPU.
Computers without a dedicated graphics card can only support CPU-based simulation.
Rendering:
In theory, using the GPU for rendering is more efficient. However, the third-party V-Ray renderer currently has stability issues when using GPU for rendering certain types of materials like fur or for denoising.
During rendering, especially when denoising or rendering fur, it is not recommended to use the GPU due to these stability concerns.
